How to define meditation? We think of it as a way to train the mind to calm itself and realize healing benefits. And, it's all done internally, you really don't need any external sources, though, as a beginner, you might want to explore different techniques and teachers to see what resonates with and helps you achieve the stillness and focus that happens when you are in a meditative state. Think about times when you've realized that you were so absorbed into something that you lost all sense of time and your surroundings -- you were meditating! By learning certain techniques, you can achieve that state whenever you want rather than by happenstance.
